SprintRay AI Studio Release Notes

Studio Early Access v0.7 - Mar 6, 2025

Known issues - crown gimbal edits

We removed the Manual Adjustments gimbal tool for adapted restorations because we weren’t happy with its performance. You can still use the gimbal tools to edit the unadapted tooth as normal

New features

  • The heatmap now works in real-time with the morph brush. This powerful combination is your best way to edit restorations manually
  • You can now double-click on a patient and treatment to proceed through the workflow
  • Adjusted the labeling and behavior of the thumbs up/down feedback to make it less intrusive
    • Removed the ‘regenerate’ option because weren’t happy with its performance
  • If you upload scans smaller than 1MB or in a filetype other than STL, OBJ, or PLY, you’ll now receive an error message

Bug fixes

  • Fixed multiple issues related to networking and connectivity, which would sometimes corrupt a case and render it unusable
  • Automatic Adaptation and Sculpting sliders now behave like sliders
  • Myriad other fixes and optimizations

Studio Early Access v0.6 - Feb 14, 2025

Known issues - Tooth Libraries & Angle of Insertion

We've removed the Tooth Library and Angle of Insertion tool because we weren’t happy with their performance. We’re temporarily taking them offline for testing and refinement. If you want to keep using the existing library tool, reach out via the feedback form and include your email address.

New features

  • Complete overhaul of AI Studio backend infrastructure for improved reliability and speed
    • Faster load times throughout
    • Fewer disconnects and other errors
    • Added new tools for our agents to provide better technical support in the future
  • Running the heatmap while using sculpt tools will now trigger a message to close the heatmap
  • Other changes and improvements, mainly behind the scenes

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue that prevented the AI from estimating tooth placement during the “margin” load
  • Fixed an issue causing camera rotation during manual margin drawing
  • Fixed various issues that caused the workflow to break or disconnect from our servers due to weak network connections
  • Fixed an issue where the expert tools would sometimes not apply during editing
  • Lots of other fixes and improvements

Early Access v0.5 - December 23, 2024

Feature spotlight - morph brush
Morph brush is here! Grab and pull entire sections of the crown to quickly close contacts and tweak embrasures. This brush will handle a wide variety of design needs.

Solution spotlight - position fine-tuning
After you confirm the Margin, you’ll be presented with a green library tooth positioned in the prep area. You’ll be asked to fine-tune the position of this tooth to make sure that it completely covers the prep.

  • This positioning step will be the foundation of the AI crown design
  • Any positioning changes you make during this step will apply to all tooth libraries
  • This step is triggered for every case, with automated checks and bypasses coming in the future

Known issue - angle of insertion
The angle of insertion tool (labeled ‘Coming Soon’) is still a work in progress. Edits to the angle of insertion will not be applied. You may see unnecessary undercut warning messages; use your best judgment. This tool will be finalized in the next major version.

New features

  • The new margin drawing tool allows you to customize the margin from a blank slate
    • Left click to add control points around the margin. Then left click on the starting point to complete the margin
  • The patient screen now displays more useful info and can now be sorted by column category
    • Sorting by latest treatment will be added in a future update
  • Expert feature - the crown inner can be viewed while using expert tools to help visualize minimum thickness
  • Added a modal to explain what will happen when you click Regenerate
  • The home screen will now auto-load more cases when you reach the bottom of the screen. Previously, it would only display 30 cases total
  • Added a messaging banner to communicate updates and other key notifications
  • Added an unsupported browser warning, Studio was made for Chrome
  • If you try to navigate away from Studio when you have unsaved changes, Chrome will notify you that changes will be lost; this should reduce accidental data loss
  • Other features and optimizations

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused crown generation to time out after 2 minutes and return to the margin step. If a tooth library fails to load, it can now be fixed by using the expert placement button in the tooth library tool
  • Minimum thickness is now checked and fixed after manual placement (expert) of the library tooth
  • The margin line can now be dragged more freely, which is especially helpful on cases where the gingival margin was incorrectly detected as the prep margin
  • Heatmap can now display during manual placement (expert)
  • Flipped the occlusal adaptation slider labels, which were previously backwards
  • Resolved multiple issues which caused the renderer to appear black
  • Other fixes and improvements

Early Access v0.4 - October 16, 2024

Feature spotlight - tooth libraries

After you confirm the margin, Studio will generate 6 crowns. You can swap between them using the new tooth library tool, which has virtually zero loading time thanks to our in-house parallel generation architecture. If you have AI generation issues or defects, switching libraries can help

Known issues with tooth libraries - fixes coming soon

  • The “Set as default” star isn’t yet functional - crowns will always default to the OG library for now
  • When you place the manual library tooth, it will always show an example of the library tooth you had selected when you enter the Review step
    • Workaround: set your desired library and reopen the case. Now your manual library tooth placement will show the correct example tooth

New Features

  • When moving from Setup to Margin, a new loading animation helps visualize the work being done - we’re sick of red spinning loaders, too!
  • Heatmap improvements:
  • You can now adjust the transparency of scans and appliances - just hover over an item in the file opacity window to reveal the slider
  • If you give ‘thumbs down’ feedback during the Review step, you’ll be given the option to change the tooth library (easy) or try manually placing the library tooth (expert)
  • Some text and terminology have been updated to improve clarity
  • If you have no cases, the Home screen now displays a graphic so you don’t get bored staring at a gray screen
  • Added a new custom cursor when adding margin control points

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue during sculpting that allowed right-click to apply brush strokes, causing difficulty while panning the camera
  • Fixed an issue causing the gimbal to be set to world instead of local after performing manual library tooth placement edits
  • Fixed an issue after the regenerate workflow which caused margin edits to behave strangely after using reset in the margin step
  • Fixed an issue in the setup step which allowed accidental double-clicking on the next button to break the workflow
  • A handful of other tweaks and minor improvements

Early Access v0.3 - September 16, 2024

Feature spotlight - manually place library tooth

If you’re not happy with the AI crown, you can now place and scale the library tooth. Then, we’ll adapt the margin with the fewest changes possible. This is the best way to make major changes to the crown and override issues with the AI generation. Access this new feature in the Manual Adjustments tab.

Known issues with library tooth placement - fixes coming soon

  • Making major changes or deep intersections with the library tooth can cause auto-adapt to fail
  • After the library tooth is placed, thickness isn’t being checked. Workaround: make & save a minor sculpting change to trigger min thickness checks
  • The occlusal plane of the library tooth is still being auto-adapted. It’s supposed to just be scaled into a bounding box

New Features

  • A feedback button now floats near the crown during the Review step. Thumbs up logs your answer and dismisses, while thumbs down lets you re-generate the crown if it looks strange. Re-generation takes about 2 minutes
  • Studio will now check for minimum thickness during edits in the Review step. If it finds thickness violations, Studio will automatically apply a fix and allow you to keep/discard the changes, or continue editing
  • When you close a case and return to it later, Studio will take you back to where you left off
  • You can now press ‘Undo’ after ‘Reset,’ providing another layer of confidence for editing
  • Added patient and treatment information inside the 3D renderer to simplify troubleshooting. Click the ‘Eye’ icon to hide this information when needed
  • The heatmap now loads significantly faster as we work toward a live heatmap in the future
  • The UI has undergone a raft of changes to improve responsiveness and make Studio easier to use
  • Massive overhaul of the code base, telemetry, and state-of-the-art update processes to build out infrastructure for future Studio improvements

Bug Fixes

  • The margin line now has a minimum of 6 control points to help ensure good crown generation
  • Removed a fail-safe automatic margin adaptation running unexpectedly when using brush tools. Avoid using brushes near the margin while we work to create better safety nets
  • The minimum thickness warning will no longer trigger when clicking ‘Reset’
  • During minimum thickness warnings, you can now use the Heatmap
  • Scan filenames will no longer be lost when reopening a case
  • A bunch of bugs that aren’t important enough to mention - Studio is a work-in-progress, and we’re building fast!
